Sea and the Spitefull Seven
This is a English short story i did about 2 weeks ago. It had to outline a strong setting, conflict and diffrent charcters.
I slowly take a deep breath of comfort. A salty taste dances along my tongue and lingers in the back of my throat. The soft sand is so clean it’s almost white while the suns reflections give it an unearthly sparkle. Mums and dads sit along the beach, soaking up the rays of the sun in a peaceful calm: reading, thinking, sleeping. Children laugh as they run from the waves that slither over the compacted earth. Small yelps are heard when they are caught.
“Hey Steff, wait up!”Called Amanda running up from behind me with her body board wrapped tightly under her arm.
Amanda has been my best friend since I moved to Australia 4 years ago. Her wild Golden hair glows from a vast distance, so it’s never hard to find her in a swarming plaza.
“Hey what’s up?” I got here a while ago so I could go for a run before we hit the waves, How you been? I smiled
“Yea I’ve been good, got some bad news for you though” Panted Amanda catching her breath
“What’s that?” I asked
“When I was walking to the beach I happened to pass the Spiteful-Seven girls, they’re on their way to the beach and they’re looking for you”
The name said it all; Spiteful-Seven. Seven nasty girls that have got nothing better to do in their time but to bully other people. Courtney the so called leader was the fashion icon of the school, if she wore her hair in plaits by the end of the day eighty percent of the girls would have to.
“Oh great, how do you know they’re after me?”
“I heard them talking about you while I was on my way” replied Amanda
I could feel that Amanda was worried about me.
“Ok well let’s go out to the swell and maybe they would of bugged off by the time we get back in” I could see that Amanda was still a little concerned for my safety.
I grabbed my body board and tiptoed across the sand so my feet didn’t sizzle. The water was deep green with a tinge of brown while the white edges of its waves stood out like a sore thumb.
“I can see them coming now, lets go” said Amanda, worried.
True to her word, the seven of them were hiking down the hill onto the beach with such fuss, scanning and gazing up and down the coast line.
“There they are!” one of them screeched.
Courtney was marching towards me and Amanda; I quickly looked away acting like I hadn’t noticed them. Her eyes narrowed as she came closer. Her thin figure made me want to throw a cheeseburger at her. Heads started to turn, a group of local teenage boys let out a whistle, and she flicks her hair as she walks past giving out a half smile. By now she was 5 metres away.
“Lexi told me that you’re saying crap about our group.” Howled Courtney as she spat her gum at my feet.
Lexi was her best friend, tall with straight blonde hair. She had a piercing laugh that ticked me off and a sharp stabbing voice that made your ears bleed whenever she opened her mouth.
I only talk to Amanda about the Spiteful-Seven and she’s never told a soul about what I think of them.
“I don’t know where she got that idea from” I grunted
“Look Courtney, we didn’t come here to cause trouble, all me and Steff want to do is go for a body board” Pleaded Amanda
“Shut up you revolting living thing, this is between me and Steff” snarled Courtney
“Then why have you got all you friends with you? scared huh?” Amanda chipped in.
I took a quick glimpse of where her friends were standing. The whole six of them beaming at me hands on hips, whispering amongst themselves.
“If I find out any more rumours that you’ve been spreading, then your going to get your face punched in, got that?” said Courtney roaring up the earth from under us.
“Whatever” I rolled my eyes
Courtney blabbed beneath her breath while bouncing back.
“Hopefully that’ll be the last of them for today” Amanda said running out into the trashing waves.
