My Own Character Comedy Sketches

Post by Spüne on Sun Mar 22, 2009 7:27 pm

Hey, did these AGES ago for a talent show at my school and they were played in order to show that not everyone can show their talent on stage (although I was in a sketch and a song as well on stage Very Happy ) so... here are some talented people:

Tim Coleburry:
http://www.youtube.com/v/CU4dIYM04Zc&hl=en&fs=1

Dominic Debris:
http://www.youtube.com/v/2r57Bfmwt5o&hl=en&fs=1

Noel Moth:
http://www.youtube.com/v/i6qNJjtRvHk&hl=en&fs=1

Chrissy Paige:
http://www.youtube.com/v/B46yqV9NDmI&hl=en&fs=1

(Hugely inspired by Summer Heights High because everyone at school was loving the series at the time... but most of these characters I created before I'd seen Chris Lilley stuff - I just dumped them in a school setting. For example, Mr. Coleburry was originally a politician, Dominic was originally a film director at uni making art house films and Chrissy Paige is the character I do most and has her own blog, vlogs and we're planning on making a Borat-style movie featuring her going to Japan... we've been saving up.)

Haha Spüne you're really talented! Your characters are great and you've got a natural flair for this kind of thing. Noel the free running guy was really good. I liked when he said 'get a teacher' at the end like extreme Darren and I also thought that quote "people say that i'm gay just because I have a boyfriend" was a great touch.

Keep them coming Smile

Hey thanks. I'd love to do comedy forever and mix animation and music with it. And yes, well done for spotting the Extreme Darren reference.

Chrissy Paige's sketch ends quite abruptly. We filmed a proper ending which got pretty filthy and she said some things that the teacher didn't want to put in the actual broadcast. But we lost the footage. It ended with her story involving Harry and Ron kissing and Chrissy saying ... well... how it made her feel and she dropped the laptop and started having a little ... play. I can see why it was cut though - it was pretty gross.

Anyway, here are some deleted scenes:

And a whole deleted character, Becki Dykeson. I've played Becki Dykeson live on stage at my school - she's kinda a piss take of Katy Perry. We sung a song about the music industry in general and how "we're all better than you!" I've got the footage somewhere on my youtube page. Anyway, this was just an improv session for the character... we didn't finish it in time for the show so we abandoned it all together:

I got the impression that Chrissy's story was going to go down that route! Laughing

Cool, I'll watch the other videos Smile

Although when I describe it it sounds far worse than it actually was. You didn't see anything.

I'm guessing that's a real teacher who's with Noel? He's a good sport for taking part in your sketches Smile

And are you basing your voice of Dominic on anyone in particular? The voice sounds so familiar but I can't place my finger on who it is!

OMG Becki is so funny! I see she embodies various females singers out there- she reminds me a horrid mixture of Kate Nash, Katy Perry, Lily Allen, the Ting Tings (when she quotes a line of That's Not My Name) and typical London 'rude gyals'/'skets' from the way she is and what she says Laughing. Btw since Becki Dykeson mentioned having a BBC3 sketch show, you should totally go for this in real life. Loads of aspiring young writers have their shows broadcast on it and even the really bad ones somehow get commissioned for a second series so I can't see why you can't have a shot and be even more successful cos this is much better than some of the shows I've seen on that channel!

Yes, with Noel he's my English teacher. There's a guy in our class who's always late so I told him just to act like he'd like to act to him (he's too nice really).

Dominic is my oldest character. We went to an art gallery with the school ages ago and you could record comments about the instillation in a booth and they'd be broadcast in the reception of the gallery. For some reason I just put on this random voice (I don't know where it's from? America? Britain?) and started talking about the pictures that came up. I said a painting "really should have incorporated a speech bubble so we can see what she's thinking" and a modern picture of a few shapes on a blue background came up and I said "oh! the display's broken it's showing the colour test."

AND Oh my god! You basically just listed our brain storm of what Becki should be like. We've written a few songs for her and it turns out that one of them is naked exactly the same as one on Lily Allen's new album (although I think Lily Allen is in a different league to the other ones). The funny thing is Lily Allen actually came to our school! She was expelled after a term but everyone still talks about it. So when I performed as Becki on stage we built it up saying "an old Millfieldian who's had a #1 selling album" and everyone thought it was going to be Lily Allen.

As for the show - that's the dream. Smile Don't know how to organise getting it pitched though.

^That's really interesting. Good to see that I picked up on your brainstorm ideas! Yeah I can imagine Lily Allen having an effect on your school for the short time she was there Laughing

Bob Geldof! Yes, that's it! It just came to me that Dominic sounds a bit like Bob Geldof to me with an American twang! Or am I completely wrong? *listens to Dominic again* Very Happy It's a good voice though, I can totally imagine an 'artistic' individual sounding like that.

Well that was never the intention but I'm glad he at least sounds like a real person. I just made up this strange, poncy voice.

I should really post the original Dominic Debris sketch. It's quite funny. I just haven't uploaded it to Youtube yet.

Haha yeah that voice sounds only a little bit like Bob Geldof because he has the tendancy to drag out his words like that when he's speaking too Wink
