From Wikipedia: -

=======
Wolf Creek was marketed as being "based on true events", in the same way as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Blair Witch Project. All three films are actually works of fiction.

While not based on any single event, Mick Taylor's behaviour in Wolf Creek is reminiscent of some infamous Australian murderers. The murder methods portrayed are similar to those employed by Backpacker Murderer Ivan Milat during the early 1990s. Milat abducted backpackers, subjected them to torture and buried their bodies in the Belanglo State Forest, southwest of Sydney, New South Wales. Some of his victims were tied up and shot from various angles (the first torture scene in Wolf Creek is similar to this) and one was almost decapitated with a hunting knife. In addition, the abduction of British tourist Peter Falconio and the assault of his girlfriend Joanne Lees in July, 2001 by Bradley John Murdoch in the Northern Territory are also cited as influences. Murdoch's trial was still under way at the time of the film's initial release in Australia, and for this reason the Northern Territory court placed an injunction on the film's release there in the belief that it could influence the outcome of the proceedings.
=======

It's a good movie, but really gory, so if you can put up with a lot of blood & screaming it's worth it!

I wouldn't let the movie deter you from roadtripping around Aus, Ivan Milat's been in prison for years now ha. Just make sure you have a good map!

^Shit like that does happen in the outback i reckon. Just because we never hear about it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

I thought it was shit. Wasn't scary in the slightest. Or maybe i'm not an easily scared person i dunno, i just thought it was a let down. My friends were freaking out but i was like "....this is crap".

^Yeah the rape bit was awful. *shudders*.

Seen Hostel? Thats pretty fucked up. Shit like that probably happens in those Russian countries. I'll ask my nan haha. She'll yell at me for being "disrespectful" but meh. The bit where that dude sticks the drill in that chicks eye and all that custard looking stuff comes out was AWESOME!!! My friends were screaming and running out of the room, but i'm just sitting there going "i'm gonna re-wind that and watch it again!"

The scariest movie/television show I've ever seen is still the BBC's 1990s mockumentary "Ghost Watch" that terrified a nation. Extremely low-budget, no gore or torture porn. But some great performances, images that still haunt me to this day and the fact that it wasn't really specified that it was a hoax (it's a spoof of those 'Most Haunted...' type shows... but everything starts getting really fucked up) made it extra scary.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_watch

Too many modern 'horror' movies are too glossy. Just look at the difference between [Rec] and it's awful remake Quarantine. The hollywood gloss ruins the original texture and fear in the film.

So I don't go see many modern horror films. They're either easy torture porn or boring CGI scarring people or the really, really annoyingly yawny little laughing children.

Yeah I agree. Have you seen the Grudge? The American re-make was so shit compared to the original Japanese, Ju-on: The Grudge.
Far more scary.

I've got the Texas Chainsaw massacre uncut, i'm pretty sure it's the original, and it's been sitting there on my dvd shelf for years and i haven't been able to pluck up the courage to watch it! I managed to watch 5 mins and i got too scared, it looked old so i'm pretty sure it's the original. I looove horror movies but i would never watch hostel. Ever. I've seen the SAW movies but that's as far as i'll go. i think there's a difference between 'horror' and gore. i like horror, but gore is just too far. I might watch ghost watch, it sounds realy good!! (because i love most haunted)

^Yeah the 1980 version is the original. Its pretty fucked up, but i love it. Hostel is half porn and half gore. I had to fast forward the first hour of it because it was just sex. I'm thinking to myself "did they stick the wrong DVD in the cover for me?" I watched a documentary on the guy they based the Texas chainsaw and Hannibal off. Man he was one twisted fuck. I'm taping "Serial Killer Sunday" on the crime channel ATM. Mwahahahaa. I'm gonna watch it later tonight in the dark.

Tell you what movie does scare me though? Anything to do with clowns. They fucken freak me out and those Chucky movies. I watched one when i was 8 and the thought of my barbie dolls coming to life and trying to kill me freaked me out big time for months.

actualy i correct myself,im not sure if it was russia im sure he sed russia or slavakia hmm ! but i just found this

The idea of the film came from allegedly true events which take place in Thailand where underground gangsters go to small, poor villages in which residents sell family members to organized crime syndicates for exorbitant amounts of money. These family members are then brought to places where they are put in rooms and subsequently killed for profit and entertainment purposes.

^Thats so fucked up. I hate the human race sometimes. Animal torture is the worst though. I value animal life over a human's. I've always been that way.

^ Couldn't agree more. I think animal cruelty is the lowest and sadest point of humanity. It's beyond disgusting.

I asked my local video store if they had 'ghost watch' (that spune recommended) but they didn't.

It is good but it's one of those things that I can't tell if it is really good or if it just scares me because I remember when I first saw it and the context and everything. It's still good though. The best part is how mundane and tedious the start it. It makes you think this is just going to be another boring paranormal show where nothing happens.
